Indexing policy

Criteria that determine which sites are included in or excluded from the index.

Admission criteria

✓ The site is reachable through the Tor network (.onion v3 address).
✓ The content is legal under international law.
✓ The site fits at least one of the supported categories (privacy, journalism, technology, etc.).
✓ The site is not already in the blacklist.
✓ The site has actual content and is not an empty or parked page.

Grounds for exclusion

✕ Trade or distribution of drugs or illegal goods.
✕ Any sexual material involving minors (CSAM), reported to the competent authorities.
✕ Malware, ransomware, exploits, cyberattack tools.
✕ Phishing, scam, identity-theft or financial-fraud sites.
✕ Forums or communities dedicated to hate, racism, terrorism or violence.
✕ Personal data leaks, doxxing or content that violates the privacy of individuals.
✕ Sites that are unreachable or with uptime below 30% across the verification cycles.
✕ Duplicate content or spam with no informational value.

Review process

Submissions sent through the form are reviewed manually. The site is visited over Tor, the content is checked against the policy, and, if approved, it is added to the index with the appropriate category. Review times range from 1 to 7 days.

Removal from the index

A site can be removed in the following cases:

  • A change in content that violates this policy.
  • The site is unreachable for several consecutive verification cycles.
  • A verified report from users.
  • A request from the site administrator.

Sites removed for policy violations are added to the permanent blacklist.

Umbrixa is an index of references: it does not host, transmit or take responsibility for the content of the listed sites. A site's presence in the index does not constitute an endorsement. Users are responsible for how they use the information they find.
