What Umbrixa is

Umbrixa is a search engine for legitimate content reachable through the Tor network. The project was born out of the need to make the part of the dark web dedicated to privacy, journalism, activism, research and anonymous communication actually browsable, without relying on unmaintained directories full of dead links.

How indexing works

Sites are added through manual submissions or autonomous crawling of the Tor network. Every site is reviewed before it becomes visible: we check that the content is legal, that the site is actually reachable, and that it fits one of the supported categories. Dead sites are removed automatically during the update cycles.

Privacy

We do not collect IP addresses, we do not use tracking cookies, and we do not log user sessions. Searches are stored only in aggregate form (the query text and the number of results) to improve the relevance of the index. No personal data is processed.

The portal is reachable both on clearnet (HTTPS) and through our .onion address. For maximum anonymity we recommend using Tor Browser and accessing exclusively via .onion.

What we do not index

• Markets for illegal substances or any illicit trade
• CSAM and any content involving minors
• Malware, exploit kits, tools for offensive cyberattacks
• Phishing, scam or identity-theft sites
• Forums dedicated to hate, racism, violence
• Personal data leaks or content that violates the privacy of others

Sites with this content are removed and their URL added to the permanent blacklist.

Do you know a .onion site with legitimate content that is not in the index yet? You can send it through the submission form. It will be reviewed manually before any possible inclusion.
